Hat of the week

Written by , Posted in Hats

I was supposed to show off a really cute little white tilt hat for this weeks installment of hat of the week, but the project was halted by the damn blizzard going on outside. Did you not hear me winter? It’s time to go. Anyways, the hat was promptly replaced with this floppy felt hat that I’ve had for years and years. It’s convenient, as it keeps the snow out of my eyes, at the same time as being rather stylish (at least I think so):

By the way – if I had such a thing as a ‘boots of the week’-segment, this pair would easily make the cut :)

BHLDN

Written by , Posted in Style

BHLDN is a bridal line, and although wedding-related things usually makes me a bit impatient, I’m actually swooning over these dresses… I mean, I would get married in this in a heartbeat:

I would even wear the shoes and the headband! And look at the detailing in the patterns.. love it!

They also have a selection of lovely more general party-dresses and other very wearable accessories:

Take a look at bhldn.com for more!

Let there be light (and warmth please)

Written by , Posted in Style

It’s official: I’m sick and tired of winter, snow and ice. I want to wear cute shoes and stockings outside again. I’m tired of being practical. I just want to be pretty… So winter – our romance is over for the season, it’s time for you to pack your things and leave. Thank you.

As I’m longing for spring, I have found myself looking for some new swimwear. Not that I’m really the beach-y type (my perfect summer day is under a parasol, wearing a large hat and a ridiculous amount of sunscreen while reading a book and having a cold cocktail… ah… cocktails..), but as I’m sitting inside, next to the fire, having just come home from a cold evening walk in the persistant winter wonderland, I would much rather be having a good swim. So, here are a few pieces that I’m seriously considering making my swimwear for the coming (soon?!) season:

Stuff I Watch: Downton Abbey

Written by , Posted in Stuff I Watch

Okay, I’m having a love affair with Downton Abbey. I’ve always been a sucker for period dramas and I haven’t been this excited about a TV-series since MadMen!

The show is set in England before World War One, and circles around the privileged Crawley-family and their staff, tending to the estate — Downton Abbey. It gives a little taste of the political climate of that time, as well as all of the delicious social hierarchy and customs of the 1910s. The show follows a large gallery of interesting characters, and strikes a balance between drama and dry english wit which I find myself really enjoying.

The acting, the set-design and locations are all absolutely superb, and the costumes are so beautiful that they make the show worth watching all alone:

Why did we ever stop wearing hats regularly?

The first season is available on DVD, and the second will return to TV in 2011 – I can’t wait!

Steampunk inspired

Written by , Posted in Style

coat

I’m a sucker for the steampunk style, and love it when people incorporate steampunk details into their everyday outfits. Here’s a few of my favourite steampunkie things right now, and although a few of them are borderlining on costume, I could probably wear them all to work:

1960s military coat

Sock garters!

Skirt with bustle

1930s leather lace up boots

Keyhole blouse

You can’t make a post about steampunk style without mentioning ParaNoire. Loving both the mini-caplet above and this caplet/skirt combo:

I’m not sure if you can call Zana Bayne’s leather harnesses and accessories steampunk, but I like ‘em. :)

I’m enjoying all the NYFW coverage and was especially excited to see Jason Wu’s fall collection. Love the tailoring, the lace and the (lack of?) colours!

Mother’s Day!

Written by , Posted in Life

For some reason Mother’s Day is celebrated on different dates around the world, and as it happens: today we celebrate it in Norway! I thought I would mark the occasion by sharing a few snapshots Husband took of our lovely daughter yesterday :)

Maja woke me up yesterday. I was kinda hungover and very tired, but there’s really no better way to wake up.

After a half-an-hour of Maja playing around while I lay lazily on the couch we got up and went shopping. I love shopping with Maja because she gets so excited about everything and runs around laughing and charming everyone within earshot. I ended up buying her a ukulele and a small stool shaped like a mushroom, because what two-year-old doesn’t need that?

So Maja was as happy as could be, and mommy too because she found a lipstick in the perfect shade of red (“Ruby Woo” from Mac, if you were wondering :)

Happy Mother’s day, Everyone!

Hat of the week: Lisa Shaub cocktail hat

Written by , Posted in Hats

Another hat of the week: this week it’s this fantastic cocktail hat from Lisa Shaub. I bought it on my NY-trip and decided to debut it at the annual Nåløyet awards yesterday, and I think it’s quite brilliant!

(The hat looks good, I think, but entire outfit turned out a bit more gothic than intended :)

Check out lisashaub.com for more of Lisas work, or stop by her studio the next time you’re in NYC.

Red Velvet

Written by , Posted in Style, Vintage

Red Velvet opened their new webshop yesterday, and it’s filled with a lovely selection of handmade and vintage clothing and accessories, home decor and more. I’ve rather predictably picked out lots of 60s stuff as my favourites, but the overall feel of the collection is really more indie/70s and it’s well worth checking out!
